Materials & techniques

Earth can be dug, cut, filled, shaped, stacked, moulded, extruded or poured.

01

We work with matter, not narrative.

Clay, sand and gravel are all we need. We read the soil of each place and let its colour, grain and strength decide what it can become.

02

Technique, not doctrine.

There is no single recipe. We ram, press, cast and plaster, and we choose the method that fits the project, the climate and the people who will use it.

03

Process, not artifice.

Nothing is hidden behind the surface. Raw earth, free of cement and additives, stays visible, tactile and fully reusable.

The states of earth

Diagram of the states and techniques of earth building

01

Rammed earth

Layers of moist soil compacted into walls, floors and solid modules.

02

Compressed earth blocks

Pressed blocks of soil, stacked into walls with minimal waste.

03

Clay plasters

Hand applied finishes, from smooth to sculpted, in the colours of the soil.

04

Cast lime & gypsum

Liquid mixes poured into moulds for objects, stools and surfaces.

05

Adobe & cob

Moulded or stacked earth, the oldest ways of building with the ground.

06

Extruded & poured earth

Fluid and plastic states of earth, tested for new uses.
